Terms & Conditions

The Canadian Muslim Therapist Network (also known as the ‘CMTN’) operates as an independent network, providing resources to the public and members. The CMTN is not a Professional Body, Regulatory Body, or Accredited Register.

Membership Policies

Membership Benefits

Membership Eligibility/Requirements

Inclusivity Statement: We will consider all persons self-identifying as Muslim. The term Muslim is defined as believing in the oneness of Allah.

Members must be registered with a Regulatory Body of Practice (e.g., Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, etc.). Members who have been/are on probation with their Regulatory Body of Practice must report their status immediately. All information and documentation provided by a membership applicant must be deemed true, accurate, and complete. Members are required to keep their information up to date (including a current email address). Membership is based on a per person basis.

Membership Fees

Membership fees are ___ per month or ___ per year. Monthly plans are expected to be paid on the first of every month (Monthly plans expire at the end of the month). Yearly plans are expected to be annually paid in full based on your initial registration date informed by CMTN. Payments are non-refundable and non-negotiable.

Membership Review

All new membership applications will be reviewed within 5 working days of the application by two or more of the Chairs. If eligible, applicants will be informed of their membership via email. A mandatory screening phone call will be scheduled as a part of the application process.

Communication

All communication between CMTN and members is through email. It is the sole responsibility for members to check emails from CMTN for membership renewals, information, updates, meetings, and events. All membership and event enquiries, any enquiry for the CMTN, or request for changes to directory profiles must be emailed to Muslimtherapistnetwork@outlook.com.

Membership Cancellation/Termination

Members have the freedom to end their membership at any time. They must email Muslimtherapistnetwork@outlook.com outlining their membership cancellation request. A Chair will connect with the member to complete the brief cancellation survey.

Memberships can be terminated by the CMTN. A review meeting will be held to discuss the incident(s) in question by two or more Chairs. The following reasons warrant a membership termination:

  • Not being registered with a Regulatory Body
  • Inappropriate, unprofessional, and/or aggressive behaviour towards CMTN members or Chairs.
  • Missing 3+ consecutive Peer Supervision Meetings*
  • Breaching any membership policies
  • Missed/Unpaid membership fees

Peer Supervision Group

All CMTN peer supervision group, consultation, events, and/or resources are solely conducted by Canadian Muslim Therapist Network (CMTN).

Members are encouraged to attend and actively participate in the groups. Sharing of clinical knowledge and experiences are appreciated.

General Peer Supervision Group Guidelines:

  • Confirm attendance to peer supervision group within 48 hours of the meeting.
  • All meetings are closed groups. Please do not share the link with non-members.
  • Be mindful of equal airtime. Allow all members to participate.
  • Be mindful of differences in opinions, beliefs, knowledge, and experiences.
  • Sharing valid and reliable clinical knowledge and experience is essential to an effective peer supervision group.
  • Speak for yourself — use “I”, not “we” when voicing opinion.
  • If there are disagreements within the session, where possible, these will be aired or taken on to another meeting.
  • Always assume everyone is doing the best they can and they can do better.
  • CMTN is not in any way be responsible for monitoring any transaction between members. We may provide support if requested.

Privacy Policy

CMTN is committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so. If you believe that any information that we are holding on you is incorrect or incomplete, please email us. We will promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.

Confidentiality

CMTN takes confidentiality very seriously. Any information disclosed to us or during peer supervision meetings are expected to be held confidential. Limits to Confidentiality include:

  • In some legal proceedings a judge may issue a court order.
  • If we learn of or believe that there is physical or sexual abuse or neglect of any person under 18 years of age, we must report this information to local child protection services and the respective regulatory body of practice.
  • If we learn of or believe that an elderly person, or disabled person is being abused or neglected, we must file a report with the appropriate local agency that handles elder abuse, and the respective regulatory body of practice.
  • If we learn of or believe that you are to cause serious harm to another person, we are obligated to report this to the respected authorities and the respective regulatory body of practice.
  • If there is evidence that you are a danger or harm to yourself, we are obligated to contact the respected authorities.
  • There may be times when we consult with outside sources about cases. In these cases, no personally identifiable information will be used to discuss this case. The persons with whom we discuss cases are legally bound to keep information confidential.

Social Media

Only CMTN administrative staff contribute, monitor, and manage the social media accounts.

Liability

CMTN is not in any way responsible or liable for any members’ registration with their regulatory body of practice, business insurance, any fees, penalties or any other costs resulting from their practice as a mental health therapist.

CMTN is not in any way responsible for members not providing up-to-date contact information, qualifications updates, fees, and/or penalties as a member. Under no circumstance shall the CMTN have any liability to any person or member for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of being a member.
